City & Coastal Fun in Kuala Lumpur

Play at the beach, meet ostriches & marvel at an ancient lighthouse in Port Dickson & see top attractions on a city tour of Kuala Lumpur.

About Your Trip

Explore the historic and the modern as you journey through Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia’s Garden City of Lights — during 2 fascinating full-day tours. Your first outing takes you to Port Dickson, a popular coastal resort town, where you’ll encounter fast-moving ostriches, capable of speeds of 44 miles (71 kilometers) an hour. After a seafood lunch, enjoy some fun in the sun with a complimentary banana-boat or jet ski ride, or just relax on the beach. You’ll close out your action-packed day with a visit to Malaysia’s oldest active lighthouse at Cape Rachado (Tanjung Tuan).

The following day, you’ll explore the cultural side of Kuala Lumpur. Start with a photo opportunity in front of the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin structures. You’ll then learn about the intricate art of batik painting with a hands-on lesson before heading to the former national palace, now known as the Royal Museum. Then, marvel at the traditional Malay house known locally as Rumah Penghulu — beautifully restored, it’s one of the few such wooden structures remaining in the city. At Kuala Lumpur Tower, head to the observation deck for a spectacular view of the city. Next, tour Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) with its historic buildings, Victoria Fountain and iconic flagpole. While at the square, you can also check out photos, paintings and a large-scaled model of the city with a visit to the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery.

Looking for something to see and do on your day of leisure? You could visit Batu Caves, a series of alluring caves and temples — along with a giant statue of Lord Murugan — built into a limestone hill rumored to be close to 400 million years old. Or, head out to Masjid Negara, also known as The National Mosque of Malaysia, is a vast complex, widely adored, that showcases abstract designs and powerful art and calligraphy not seen elsewhere.

What we love:
• The Port Dickson district boasts an 11-mile (18-kilometer) stretch of coastline with numerous beaches such as Corus Paradise Beach and Blue Lagoon.
• The PD Ostrich Show Farm offers a chance to discover more about these exotic flightless birds, and features the popular Dinosaur Playground with dinosaur sculptures.
• The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a museum set in a colonial-era building built more than 100 years ago.

Destination

Old and new collide in Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Metal high-rises tower over colorful markets. Hawkers peddle their wares on the steps of high-end shopping malls and modern restaurants. Malaysian tigers prowl the dense, exotic jungles just outside the city, and equally exotic islands are just a boat ride away.

Known as “KL” by local residents, Kuala Lumpur boasts an impressive array of sightseeing attractions, including the nearly 1,483-foot-tall (452-meter-tall) Petronas Twin Towers, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Mosque of Malaysia. The cuisine is highly influenced by both Indian and Chinese flavors, though much of the street food reflects Javanese, Arabian, Thai, Sumatran and Japanese.
